Our conducting team

Tony Wheat
Hi. My name is Tony and I have the privilege of being one of the directors of the Newark and Sherwood Development Band, NSDB.
I trained as a music teacher at Bretton Hall College and have taught at a number of secondary schools, mainly as Head of Music at the Becket School in Nottingham. I then spent 5 years as a lay chaplain at a school in Chesterfield before retiring. After my retirement I taught part time at two primary schools before finally being allowed to retire.
I play oboe in the concert band and also the Notts Police Band, with which I am assistant conductor, as well as running a church choir and playing the organ.
I love conducting the Development Band and helping people young and not so young develop their personal musical skills and become more confident as a member of an ensemble.

Kelly Lashbrook
Kelly started learning the clarinet at the age of 8, and enjoyed playing with various ensembles as a teenager in Devon.
After studying music at university, she worked as both an instrumental and secondary music teacher, teaching clarinet, saxophone and flute.
Returning to instrumental teaching after having children, Kelly has recently resumed ensemble playing and joined NSCB in 2021. She particularly enjoys supporting younger players in the Development band and ensuring players of all ages and abilities get the most out of their time playing.
Kelly has recently started assisting with conducting the Development band and looks forward to welcoming new players to the group.
