Newark and Sherwood Concert Band's Musicians
JUST A FEW OF OUR 50+ PLAYERS...![]() Caroline - founder member - started off on 1st clarinet, then 2nd, then 3rd, then bass, then alto, then tinkered with timps and percussion and now back on bass clarinet! Our first Minister for Foreign Affairs!
One of two winners of the 2014 Unsung Hero Award ![]() Steve Sutton who occasionally plays for us on bass trombone - he was our Deputy Musical Director and very "strict" when wielding the baton, but very naughty when sitting at the back with the brass section!
![]() Teresa on 1st flute and our Library Assistant - looking very glamorous after having her hair done especially for our Palace Concert!
Recipient of the Most Improved Player of 2015 Award ![]() One of our younger members, Victoria, who has just passed her Grade 8 with distinction 3 days before her 13th birthday! She is expertly taught by Alan (Decent Chaps) and now plays1st flute.
We have four young members including Victoria: Amy (clarinet), Amy (trumpet), Amelie (flute) and Rebekah (trombone). Keep up the practice girls! ![]() Alison on clarinet - one of the many in our band who are somewhat 'barmy' - wears nice frocks though!
![]() This is young Rebekah making a very good job on 2nd trombone - had to stand on front of the stage at Palace Theatre last year with Hannah and Rupert for their trombone feature.
![]() Matt on 1st alto - been with us quite a while now and cycles to our rehearsals at Kelham Hall - if it's windy though, he pleads on Facebook for a lift from some kind soul.
![]()
Our super 2nds from left to right Sue, Mavis and David. They also provide refreshments in the break - thank you! ![]() Steph, one of the lovely ladies on our alto sax
section - joined us within the past 12 months and very welcome. ![]() Sally our principal French Horn.
![]() Sarah Mac on solo clarinet - her butter-wouldn't-melt-in-your-mouth looks, somewhat belie her personality!!
|
![]() Our euphonium player Super Shelby. She is our highly efficient music store organiser (terrifying). A member of the highly regarded Sutton family - badly behaved on the back row though, with our butter-wouldn't-melt-in-your-mouth bassoonist........
One of two winners of the 2015 Unsung Hero Award ![]() Brian - lovely player on flute and piccolo. This gentleman has hardly ever missed a rehearsal or concert in all the years he has been with us - well done Brian and thank you!
![]() Jean on bassoon - the oldest member of our team at 80+ a wonderful and inspiring character. A favourite member of the 'gang'.
![]() Bob on alto sax - this man is positively saintly - he's also our librarian (an arduous task) and long-standing member of our committee!
One of two winners of the 2014 Unsung Hero Award ![]() Hannah on lead trombone - also very sporty and our Mistress of the Wardrobe!! Great title, great lady.
![]() Ah now here we have the lovely Michelle on tenor sax
doing her best to thwart the attempts of others in the tenor section, to keep her in order. When Michelle and Charlotte get together....oh dear! ![]() Now here is James who has moved from tenor to clarinet.
(Think he's wearing earplugs - probably because he was sitting directly in front of the percussion section)! ![]() 1st bassoonist and secretary, Richard. Richard joined the band in February 2014 having "come out of retirement" to pick up the bassoon again after a break of some 30 years.
![]() Let me introduce you to Sarah (our Safeguarding Officer) who sits on 1st alto with Matt and Steph. Joined us full time about 3 years ago
now and a welcome addition to the team. ![]() Two new players to join our band - a father and son team!
Andy Wheeldon on 1st cornet and Reuben on 2nd tenor sax. A brilliant addition to our band - Andy has now become the band's Transport & Logistics Manager otherwise known as the "band van"!! They look very smart in our new band uniform. ![]() Jenni - our lovely, smiley cornet/trumpet player;
great to have her as a member of our team (when she's not gadding about the UK in her caravan)! |
![]() Kate, our Chairman who tries in vain to keep us
in order, but looks like she enjoys doing it. She cycled 800 miles through Europe during one summer - marvellous achievement at her age!!!! Sorry Kate, just couldn't resist it.... ![]() Max on 3rd French horn - hurrah we now have a French Horn Section!
![]() "The Three Amigos" - from left to right, Amy, James & Shiraz-Connoisseur Don! James and Don are no longer with the band now though. |
![]() Our MD, Colum J O'Shea, young and dynamic - tries to keep us all in order and a firm favourite with our audiences. Also has a magnificent singing voice!
![]() Now here we have the lovely irrepressible
Charlotte Lucky Luxton on bari sax, recently joined by Rachael who probably has no idea what she's let herself in for........... ![]() Amélie - our youngest member at the age of 12, recipient of the ABRSM Junior Scholarship 2015-16. ABRSM grade 8 distinction on flute which she studies at The Royal College of Music Junior department, London. Summer 2018 Amélie is taking on the challenge of a piccolo. Expertly taught clarinet, sax & piano and previously taught flute, by Alan (Decent Chaps). She has been with the band since she was eight years old.
